Several Kiwanians were on hand to accept the Award of Non-Profit of the Year on East Aurora Kiwanis 100th Year! Pictured above from left to right are Dr. Dick O’Connor, Debbie O’Connor, Chuck Snyder, Pres-Elect Tom Ricci, Kiwanis President Sheila Snyder, Irene Favata, Joe Favata and Leslie Stewart.
At a dinner ceremony held by the Greater East Aurora Chamber of Commerce on March 19th, The Kiwanis Club of East Aurora was proud to be named the Non-Profit of the Year. Our Club of volunteers work hard all year long throughout the community, just so we can give all our donations back to the youth of East Aurora. Thank you to this community who has supported us for the past 100 years!
We were introduced by MaryJo Bartron from LaBella Associates in Elma and here is what she had to say:
It isn’t often that a non-profit organization can lay claim to supporting the same community for 100 years but that is exactly what our next honoree has done.
The Kiwanis Club of East Aurora was chartered in 1925 and has been serving the local community since that time.
Whether it’s providing support for the youth and families in East Aurora, honoring senior citizens, or working on large & smaller building projects, Kiwanis has always showed up in ways that make a difference.
Kiwanis members have worked tirelessly over the years to raise money for the youth of East Aurora. In 1963, EA Kiwanis raised the money needed for the community pool. They built a complete playground at Hamlin Park as well as the largest shelter in the park. Before the Rural Outreach Center moved to their current location, Kiwanis built an addition on their building to provide much needed additional space as well as providing financial assistance.
The East Aurora Kiwanis Club donates an average of $10,000 annually to the Boys & Girls Club of East Aurora to fund youth programs such as Terrific Kids, Job Readiness and Workforce Development, Scholarships for needy youths, tutoring and homework assistance and HK Whitney Ball League sponsorships.
Throughout the community, Kiwanis annually supports the Aurora Arsenal Soccer League, E.A.S.T. Swim Team, Town of Aurora Easter Egg Hunt, EAHS Hockey Club, two $1000 Scholarships to graduating seniors and an annual skating party at the rink. They provide financial assistance to the EA Fireworks, Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding and every January the Kiwanis Club fills backpacks with much needed supplies to be distributed to needy children. For the past 92 years, Kiwanis has been hosting our Senior Citizen’s Holiday luncheon to honor over 100 seniors throughout our community.
All of this is made possible through the generosity of the local community and their support from the various Kiwanis fundraisers. The members of this club are all volunteers who step up every day to serve this East Aurora. The Kiwanis slogan is “Kids Need Kiwanis” and as one of the strongest clubs in our region, EA Kiwanis has made a significant impact on everyone’s lives over the past 100 years.
It is my honor to introduce the Kiwanis Club of East Aurora as the Greater East Aurora Chamber’s 2025 Non-Profit Organization of the Year.
